Weekend benedicts are a favorite on our homestead, and this tahini hollandaise sauce is the absolute perfect sauce to drizzle over your benny!  I’ve made a few different Hollandaise sauces (one with chickpeas, and one with silken tofu) and this tahini version may be the best one yet – made with no butter.

It’s a bright and lemony sauce that goes so well with savory breakfast benedicts or veggies. We enjoyed this hollandaise sauce over my sheet pan hash browns and WOW, it stole the show.

This Tahini Hollandaise Sauce Is:

  • Bright
  • Creamy
  • Citrus-y
  • Savory
  • Loaded with Flavor
  • Earthy
  • Vegan, gluten free, and dairy free
  • Ready in about 5 minutes!

The Best Blender for Making Sauces

I’ve owned a lot of blenders, but my Vitamix is definitely the best one I’ve owned. This high-speed blender will blend even the toughest of ingredients into pulp.  I prefer using my blender to my food processor for sauces like this or homemade hummus, as it’s much easier to clean the Vitamix. This is definitely one kitchen appliance we use on a daily basis!

How Do I Make Hollandaise Sauce without Butter?

  1. To a blender, add the tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and HALF of the hot water (save the other half), mustard powder, turmeric, and salt. Blend until the sauce is a smooth and creamy consistency.
  2. If it is too thick, add more hot water, 1 tablespoon at a time until it reaches your desired consistency.   The thickness will depend on what kind of tahini you use (some brands are more smooth than others)!
  3. Pour the finished sauce into a ramekin or serving dish, and sprinkle extra paprika for garnish. Drizzle over vegetables, benedicts, or hash browns.

Note: this is not a classic Hollandaise by any means, it’s a dairy free version that is made without butter. If you are looking for the real deal, you can find Julia Child’s recipe here!
