The Best Homemade Oatmeal Starts with the Best Ingredients
I was so excited to partner with One Degree Organics to create this amazing vegan & gluten breakfast recipe for National Oatmeal Day! They sent me a sample of their Organic Sprouted Rolled Oats which I used to make this creamy and delicious oatmeal.
The quality of the oats is everything in this recipe! I like One Degree Organic Oats because they are certified as Glyphosate Residue Free and display the Bio-Checked Non Glyphosate Certified seal. Glyphosate has been classified as a “probable carcinogen,” or cancer-causing substance by the The World Health Organization.
I feel good knowing my oats are coming from a company that has 100% transparency with their ingredients and has third-party testers to keep the glyphosate out of my kitchen! Learn more about how One Degree Organics sources natural ingredients without glyphosate here.
What’s In This Rice Cooker Oatmeal Recipe?
I love shopping for fresh produce through Misfits Market – they sell groceries, healthy pantry staples, and fantastic food finds (even wine!) at a discounted price. Pick out your favorite seasonal produce, save up to 40% off grocery store prices & get it delivered to your door.
- One Degree Organic Sprouted Rolled Oats: I absolutely love this brand – they have QR codes on all their products which show you exactly which farm the ingredients come from. These sprouted rolled oats are non-GMO, organic, and gluten free. Find out where to get One Degree Organic Products near you with the location finder app on their homepage.
- Fruit: it’s fall so I had delicious fresh apples that were simple to toss in! But this recipe is versatile in that you can use any fruit you’d like! Berries, pears, plums, or peaches would be particularly delicious.
- Cinnamon: cooks in the oats for a warm spicy flavor
- Agave nectar, or other natural sweetener
- Flaxseeds: I like to add some ground flax for fiber and the sweet nutty flavor it brings
- Water: I used filtered tap water
What Do I Need to Make Rice Cooker Oats?
This is a foolproof recipe, and it only takes a few minutes to prep! First of all, get your oats ready. One Degree Organic Sprouted Rolled Oats are perfect – make sure to use rolled oats and not quick oats for this one. Rolled oats are heartier and will keep their shape while cooking.
And get your rice cooker out. I have a really basic rice cooker that has lasted us years and years, so I got to say I’ve been very happy with it! It gets weekly use, and is great for cooking rice, lentils, quinoa, and now oats! But I’d love to upgrade to this model eventually, it’s THE Cadillac of rice cookers. Our family has it, and it is one fantastic upgrade. And it has a great feature which keeps the rice warm on the counter, so you can enjoy it all day.
How to Make Oatmeal in a Rice Cooker
OK it really doesn’t get easier than this! My rice cooker has a ‘quick cook’ mode for rice which ends up being about 30 minutes. I found that to be the perfect setting for this oatmeal, but keep in mind your rice cooker model may vary.
- Add all ingredients to rice cooker, and stir well to combine.
- Set Rice Cooker on ‘Porridge’ or ‘Rice’ or ‘Quick Cook’ mode (which ever your rice cooker model has). Oatmeal should cook for about 30 minutes. Once you’ve selected your mode, press Start.
- Once the oatmeal is finished cooking, test and adjust seasoning as needed, adding extra agave or cinnamon as desired.

Absolutely love this recipe! I use organic rolled oats from Trader Joe’s, raw local honey in place of agave and a cup of mixed berries for our fruit. Very delicious even my hubby likes it!
