Grow Fresh Herbs in Your Kitchen All Year Long
I always add fresh greens to my smoothies, I absolutely love the taste! We got this great 6-Pod Aerogarden which is fantastic for growing greens and herbs in the winter. We actually got it when we lived in a smaller apartment, but even now that we own an acreage we still use it year-round! I love growing herbs on my countertop like fresh parsley, basil, dill, mint, sage, thyme, and lemon balm.
It uses LED lights and water, so no messy soil needed – you can have fresh herbs at your fingertips any time. I love picking a few springs of parsley to chop on pastas, adding basil leaves to soups, and tossing some dill in with my pasta salads. This Aerogarden is a great gift for anyone who would like fresh herbs… no big kitchen or green thumb required!
What’s In This Tropical Matcha Smoothie Recipe?
- Pineapple, Spinach, Oranges – I get all the fresh produce for my recipes from my garden and from Misfits Market – they sell all organic produce at a super discounted price, and it’s purchased direct from the farmers. We get Misfit Market boxes every other week and love picking out our favorite seasonal produce for delivery. You can get $10 off your first $30 box by clicking here!
If you think organic produce is too expensive… think again, and give Misfits Market a look!
- Matcha Powder – I use this yummy matcha which is organic and ceremonial grade, which is the highest quality of matcha you can get. I actually have their starter kit which comes with an whisk which makes me feel extra fancy in the morning when I make this drink!
- Milk – you can use any variety you like (just make sure to use a plant-based milk for a vegan/dairy free version)- I used unsweetened Almond Milk for my version of this recipe, and it was DELISH!
- Banana: add 1 banana or some of this great banana powder. When we don’t have fresh bananas, adding a tablespoon of this banana powder to every smoothie has been a great way to get nutrition in.
- Flaxseed Meal: I always add a scoop in my oatmeal for a little extra nutritional punch! This flaxseed meal has a wonderful nutty flavor too. Flaxseeds have a ton of amazing health benefits, so add a scoop to breakfasts, lunches, or smoothies!
- Water
- Ice
The Best Blender for the Matcha Smoothies
I’ve owned a lot of blenders, but my high-speed Vitamix blender is definitely the best one I’ve owned. This appliance will blend even the toughest of ingredients (frozen fruit, anyone?) into pulp. I prefer using my blender to my food processor for sauces or homemade hummus, as it’s much easier to clean out the Vitamix. This is definitely one kitchen appliance we use on a daily basis, if not twice a day!
Frozen Fruit Recipes For the Win!
I used frozen pineapple and banana in this smoothie instead of fresh. By using freezer ingredients, I can stock up when they are on sale, and use them in all kinds of great dishes. It saves me a trip to the store, and I can have frozen fruit to use in smoothies in no time. Check out all my recipes that use Freezer Ingredients on The Herbeevore – great for those days when you want a meal ready fast! And check out my Top 125 Plant-Based Pantry Staples for long-lasting staples that I always keep on hand.
If you grow spinach or kale in your garden, you can cut the leaves, wash them, and put them in an airtight bag to freeze. That way you can enjoy frozen greens in your recipes and smoothies all year long!
How Do I Make A Smoothie with Matcha Powder?
- Add all ingredients to a high speed blender.
- Blend on low, and increase speed until all fruit/ice chunks are blended and the smoothie is a creamy consistency.
- Pour into your favorite glass, sit back, and enjoy!
Dietary Modifications
- This recipe is vegan and gluten free – if you are adding a protein powder, make sure it keeps with any dietary modifications you require. I like a vegan and gluten free orange and ginger protein for this smoothie, if I’m adding a powder!
