This high protein nice cream recipe is a late-night favorite of mine! Of all the desserts in the world ice cream is my absolute favorite! I love it but a lot of the non-dairy ones I’ve tried are chalky and expensive. This treat is a great compromise – Healthy fruit and plant based protein at a fraction of the cost! It definitely satisfies the craving for ice cream, and is ready in 5 minutes.

The Best Blender for Ice Cream
I’ve owned a lot of blenders, but my Vitamix is definitely the best one I’ve owned. This high-speed blender will blend even the toughest of ingredients into a rich and creamy ice cream. I prefer using my blender to my food processor for recipes like this, as it’s much easier to clean the Vitamix. This is definitely one kitchen appliance we use on a daily basis!

- Frozen Bananas – gives this nice cream sweetness and a thick texture!
- Chocolate Protein Powder – I love this chocolate protein powder which has a whopping 30 grams of protein per serving! It’s vegan and gluten free too, and tastes great in recipes like this or in creamy thick smoothies.
- Almond Milk– I used unsweetened almond milk, and Silk has a shelf-stable version that lasts up to a year in the pantry!
- Walnuts: because I love adding heart-healthy and brain-healthy ingredients to my foods when I can. I stocked up a few bags of these walnuts which are super cheap and a great value for the quality.
- 1 cup ice
Make Chocolate Ice Cream Vegan for a Healthy Version
This vegan blender chocolate ice cream is a simple way to get extra plant power in your diet. I’m all about making recipes plant-based when I can. Vegan cooking does NOT have to be bland, boring, or flavorless… It’s quite the opposite when done right. By building meals around vegan pantry staples and swapping in a few plant-based ingredients you can make healthier meals for you and your family. I made a list of my 125 favorite vegan pantry ingredients that we use on a weekly basis, and check out all my vegan recipes here that are on The Herbeevore. These easy and healthy recipes are fantastic meatless and dairy free meals for your table.
If you are vegan, please check to make sure your protein powder is dairy free and certified vegan. The chocolate protein powder I use is, but not all of them are. Double checking labels is always a great idea if you eat a specific diet.
How Do I Make Nice Cream with Protein Powder?
- Add the frozen bananas, protein powder, almond milk, and walnuts to the blender. Start blending on low speed and work your way up to high speed until smooth. Add the ice and blend for 1 minute longer.
- If the ice cream starts to seize in the blender, turn off the blender, scrape the sides and add 1/4 more almond milk.
- Pour mixture into bowls and eat immediately (or freeze 1 hour for harder ice cream).
