This sweet lemon balm smoothie recipe is vibrant and fresh, and is loaded with a sweet hint of lemon basil. This fruity tropical smoothie will let you rise and SHINE! OK, our lemon basil plant is taking over our Aerogarden at the moment! We have a 7 pod Aerogarden and we have: lemon basil, Genovese basil, parsley, and sage. Our lemon basil is starting to creep into parsley territory, so I’ve been pruning and making these delicious lemon basil smoothies in the morning for my husband and I. Lemon basil (or lemon balm) is a fantastic citrusy addition to your daily smoothie. It has a very sweet subtle flavor that pairs so nicely with fresh fruit – this is one fun smoothie you HAVE to try!

Grow Fresh Lemon Balm in Your Kitchen All Year Long
We got this great 6-Pod Aerogarden which is fantastic for growing herbs in the winter. We actually got it when we lived in a smaller apartment, but even now that we own an acreage we still use it year-round! I love growing herbs on my countertop like fresh basil, dill, mint, sage, thyme, parsley, and lemon balm. It uses LED lights and water, so no messy soil needed – you can have fresh herbs at your fingertips any time. I love picking a few springs of parsley to chop on pastas, adding basil leaves to soups, and tossing some dill in with my pasta salads. This Aerogarden is a great gift for anyone who would like fresh herbs… no big kitchen or green thumb required!
What’s In This Lemon Balm Smoothie Recipe?
- Lemon Basil Leaves: also called Lemon Balm
- Pineapple
- Mango
- Papaya: you can use fresh papaya or papaya powder, which is what I used! Papaya powder is for more than just smoothies… it has an enzyme that can help ease swelling when applied to bee or wasp stings! (As beekeepers, that’s the reason we keep some on hand… and it’s also really yummy in smoothies.)
- Banana: add 1 banana or some of this great banana powder. During the pandemic we’ve been limiting our grocery deliveries, and adding a tablespoon of this banana powder to every smoothie has been a great way to get nutrition in.
- Chia Seeds: these add thickness to the smoothie, and tons of plant-based nutrients! Chia seeds are great to add to a post-workout smoothie and help your body recover from exercise. I always try to add a scoop to my smoothies – they add a major nutrient burst without changing the flavor.
- Water
- Ice
- Plant-Based Protein Powder: I love love LOVE Foursigmatic’s plant based protein lines, and I always keep some on hand to add to my smoothies or hot cacao!
The Best Blender for the Job
I’ve owned a lot of blenders, but my high-speed Vitamix blender is definitely the best one I’ve owned. This appliance will blend even the toughest of ingredients (frozen fruit, anyone?) into pulp. I prefer using my blender to my food processor for sauces or homemade hummus, as it’s much easier to clean out the Vitamix. This is definitely one kitchen appliance we use on a daily basis, if not twice a day!
