This homemade electrolyte water recipe is a simple and tasty way to hydrate naturally with no added sugars. This DIY alternative to sports drinks has just 3 ingredients and can be made in less than 5 minutes!
Enjoy this drink after a workout, on a hot day, or when you want some extra hydration. It can be made with a few staple ingredients, and tastes amazing.
We do a lot of hard work on our homestead, and often need to re-hydrate. Instead of having traditional sports drinks which contain high fructose corn syrup and neon dye, we make our own electrolyte water using coconut water!
Coconut water naturally contains electrolytes, and is a great way to get minerals like potassium, sodium, and manganese naturally! Plus, it tastes amazing.

- Coconut Water – I absolutely love the flavor of this coconut water! It’s great in this electrolyte water recipe, or even just by itself.
- Lemon Juice – freshly squeezed
- Pink Himalayan Sea Salt: The salt in this recipe helps the body to absorb the coconut water. I like to use a pink Himalayan Sea Salt in my kitchen, which can have more natural minerals and is less processed than table salt. It’s inexpensive, so I’d recommend this salt if you’re looking for an easy way to level up your spice pantry.
- Honey: Optional – if you like a little more sweetness. As beekeepers, we have plenty of raw honey so I try to use it in all my recipes instead of sugar. I’d recommend trying a local farmers market to find the best raw honey in your area. Or else, this raw organic honey online here is the next best thing.
How Do I Make Electrolyte Drinks with Coconut Water?
- In a large glass or mason jar, add the coconut water, lemon juice, salt, and honey if using.
- Stir well to combine until all ingredients are well mixed.
- Serve plain or over ice. Enjoy!
