This recipe combines my two favorite things: hash browns and an easy weekend breakfast. We’ve been having a major heat wave this summer, so instead of turning on the oven, I’ve been cooking some of our favorite recipes in the air fryer instead.

We absolute LOVE our Air Fryer and I’ve been trying all kinds of delicious vegetables in it.  I’ve been having a lot of fun trying out new ways to use it, and let me tell you, the air fryer is made for hash browns and potatoes. These hash browns were an amazing side dish with poached eggs and hollandaise!  The air fryer gets the potatoes crispy on both sides, and tender in the middle.

What’s In This Air Fried Shredded Potatoes Recipe

See the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!

  • Frozen Hash Browns – I use unsalted or unseasoned hash browns, which lets me add my own spices.
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Fresh garlic cloves, or garlic powder.
  • Garlic Salt: for a sprinkle of flavor and saltiness, which is really great on the potatoes!
  • Parsley
  • Red Chili Flakes: for a little heat! I like to add a few shakes to this recipe to give this dish a nice complex depth of flavor.

Perfect Hash Browns in the Air Fryer

We have a super-quiet air fryer and we are in love with this thing!  Since we don’t use a microwave, the air fryer is perfect for heating up things quickly. It’s been really fun to make all kinds of recipes: crispy vegetables, tofu, muffins, and it’s great for reheating leftovers.

I’ve owned a few models, but highly recommend this quiet air fryer for anyone who loves to cook!

  1. In a bowl, mix the frozen hash browns, olive oil, chopped garlic, and garlic salt.  Toss well to combine.
  2. Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket (or air fryer rack, depending on your model). Do not pre-heat the air fryer.
  3. Set air fryer to 380 degrees, and set for 18 minutes.  Halfway through cooking, flip the hash browns.
  4. Once potatoes have finished cooking, remove from air fryer and top with freshly chopped parsley and red chili flakes.  Enjoy!
