I love a really tasty and easy recipe, & this pizza toast couldn’t be simpler to make! You can use your favorite bread for this (I used my recipe for delicious beer bread) and top with your favorite pizza add-ons.

I kept it simple with arugula, but you could add peppers, mushrooms, spinach, or pineapple if that’s your jam. Anyway you serve it, you have a fantastic and easy snack that will be loved by all. This is a great snack for any age – from kids to adults!

What’s In This Easy Homemade Pizza Bread?

See the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!

  • Bread – I used a thick sliced homemade beer bread for this, but you can use anything you have on hand: Texas toast, sourdough, sandwich bread, or rye!
  • Tomato Sauce You can use any jarred tomato or spaghetti sauce you have. If you have pizza sauce, you can definitely add that, but regular pasta sauce tastes just as good! This tomato sauce is my favorite – its sweet, flavorful, and fresh!
  • Fresh mozzarella balls –  I used this Ciliegine which means “cherry sized” in Italian.
  • Butter – I like to use unsalted butter to reduce the amount of sodium in my cooking. It’s a great addition to brush on the bread before toasting!
  • Arugula – I love adding bright & peppery arugula to my pizzas, but you can add any favorite toppings you like.

How Do You Make Pizza Toast?

  1. Melt the butter in the microwave or sauce pan. Set aside.
  2. Toast your bread slices. Brush them with melted butter after they are toasted.
  3. To each piece of toast, add a tablespoon of tomato sauce, then the fresh mozzarella on top.  Place the assembled pizza toasts on a sheet pan, place on an even layer.
  4. Place the sheet pan on a center rack in the oven. Broil on low heat for 4-5 minutes, until the mozzarella cheese has melted and begins to brown and bubble. Keep an eye on the toasts, as they can burn quickly under the broiler, so pay attention after 4 minutes until the toasts are ready.
  5. Remove toasts from the oven, and top with fresh arugula.  Enjoy!
