This vegetarian steak fries recipe is a simple way to get extra veggies in your diet. I’m all about making recipes plant-based when I can. Vegetarian cooking does NOT have to be bland, boring, or flavorless… It’s quite the opposite when done right. By building meals around vegetarian pantry staples and swapping in a few plant-based ingredients you can make better meals for you and your family.

What’s In Oven Baked Steak Fries Recipe?

See the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!

Other Essential Equipment

  • Parchment Paper – I line my sheet pans with parchment paper, and I found the potatoes get nice and crispy on the paper, and won’t stick to the sheet pan.  I go through about one of these large rolls a year, they are great for baking, roasting, and keeping foods from sticking to each other.  Do NOT use wax paper, the wax will melt off on the potatoes.
  • Large Sheet Pan – I invested in a large half sheet pan, that I love using for roasting and baking all my one pan dinners.
  • Large “Fish Turner” Spatula – I actually like using a fish turner spatula for these fries as it has a huge surface area, and is much larger than my other spatula. That way, when I flip the potatoes half way during roasting, I can flip a good amount of them in a single scoop of the spatula.

Sheet Pan Potato Recipes For the Win!

These steak fries in the oven are the perfect sheet pan dinner!  I love a good sheet pan meal, especially during these fall months when the weather starts to turn cooler. Cooking on a sheet pan is one of my favorite ways to get a meal on the table fast!

All the food gets cooked on a single pan, which makes cleaning up a breeze. And the oven does all the work for you, so you can focus on other kitchen prep while the food cooks. Sheet pan meals are awesome for breakfast, lunch, or dinner – check out my link here to see other sheet pan meals that are ready in no time!

The Best Sauces for Steak Fries

I’m a classic ketchup gal usually, but I love mixing it up and coming up with some delicious dipping sauces for fries. Steak fries are especially great to dip as they are thick and hold up to the sauce. Here are a few homemade recipes that bring you beyond the ketchup and into some serious dipping flavor!

How Do I Make Steak Fries in the Oven?

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper, and add 1 tablespoon of the sunflower oil on top of the parchment paper, spreading it out in an even layer on top of the paper.
  • In a large bowl, toss the potato wedges with the remaining 1 tablespoon sunflower oil, corn starch, Montreal Steak Spice, and garlic powder. Toss well to combine, making sure each side of the potato wedges are coated in the corn starch mixture.
  • Add the potato wedges to the sheet pan, in a single layer on the pan. Don’t overlap or double up on the rows, it will prevent the potatoes from sticking together.
  • Place sheet pan in the oven, and roast the potatoes for 20 minutes. Flip them with a spatula (I actually use a fish turner spatula for this, as it has a larger surface area) and roast the potatoes on the other side for 20 more minutes.
  • Once the potatoes have finished cooking, carefully remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle the tops of the potatoes with a hint of sea salt. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces and enjoy!
