Health Benefits of Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are little nutrition powerhouses!  They contain omega 3 fatty acids, and the fiber can help keep you full. Nutrition Facts.org has a great video about the benefits of eating whole chia seeds versus ground. For this recipe, I kept them whole, but you can do either.

You can also enjoy this drink warm or cold. The warm drink is more like a tea, which tastes great!  You could always add a tea bag of your choice while the seeds are steeping too, for more flavor.

What’s In this Lemon Chia Seed Drink?

  • Chia Seeds – a nutritious additional to all kinds of recipes- chia seeds are fantastic to add into smoothies or enjoy as a chia seed pudding. These little seeds are super versatile (ever heard of chia pets?) and are wonderful to cook and bake with!  They are also a great source of Omega-3 acids, I use this brand which is inexpensive and also organic!
  • Water, either warm or cold
  • Lemon Juice: Use fresh lemons if you have it, or this really great bottled lemon that you can keep in your pantry if you don’t have fresh lemons. This organic lemon is great for dressings, dips, and even cocktails – and it tastes fresh, which is great to have around if you don’t use lemon juice everyday but still want to keep some around.
  • Agave Syrup:  I really like using this raw organic agave syrup because it’s a natural and sustainable sweetener, plus it is ridiculously  inexpensive online so I always keep a few of these bottles in my pantry.

You can also add a pinch of sea salt for extra electrolytes… but in the interest of keeping this recipe low sodium, I skipped the salt.
