The base of this recipe is fresh produce. I start with fresh greens, fresh kale and fresh baby spinach. I love the combination of taste of the greens. And a whole head of romaine lettuce for extra juice and flavor.

I also add some celery and cucumbers for freshness and flavor. I love the astringent taste of these, and they both work so well in the juice.

And I like adding some fresh apple and fresh ginger root for extra sweetness and spice.

For the best fruit juice, I love using my easy clean slow juicer, which gets each delicious drop out of the fruit. It’s great for most fruits and larger peeled citrus!

If your looking for a great juicer, it’s quiet, simple to clean, and an excellent tool we use almost daily.

Additions and Substitutions

You can add any variety of apples you prefer. I had fuji apples on hand, but any type of apple will work well.

You could also substitute your favorite greens instead of spinach, kale, or romaine lettuce. Or add arugula, cabbage, carrot, or turmeric root.

You can skip the apple juice if you prefer just vegetables.

Recipe FAQs

What are the ingredients for green juice?

While ingredients can vary based on the type of juice, I found that a combination of fresh greens (kale, spinach, romaine lettuce), vegetables (cucumber, celery), and fruits and roots (apple, orange, or ginger) make a wonderful green juice.

What makes green juice spicy

If you notice a spicy flavor in your green juice, it’s likely the fresh ginger root. Fresh ginger can give the juice a kick and nice sharp taste.

Can you make green juice without a juicer?

Yes, you could also follow this recipe and add in the ingredients to your blender with 2 cups of water. Just be sure to strain the juice to remove the pulp before enjoying.
