Chips and dip are such a classic combination – we had them at every party, sleepover, barbecue, and super bowl I can remember! I wanted to make a vegan version that was high protein and dairy free. This 5 minute blender sour cream dip couldn’t be easier to make – add all the blender ingredients, mix, and fold in the green onions at the end for a fresh and fun party classic. This dip is great for classic potato chips, added to a baked potato, or just as a dip for veggie sticks. This is one dip that will go FAST at your next gathering, take my word for it.

What’s In This Dairy Free Sour Cream and Onion Dip?
- Silken Tofu – I have been LOVING these shelf-stable tofu packs from Amazon. I literally have 3 cases of them in my pantry as we speak. They are an inexpensive and healthy way to get some plant protein in. The texture of this extra firm silken tofu is perfect for this dip, no pressing required!
- Nutritional Yeast: not to be confused with bread baking yeast, nutritional yeast has a cheesy nutty umami flavor which is great in all kinds of dishes – I even sprinkle it on fresh popped pop corn and WOW! Also great in soups and sauces of all kinds.
- Olive Oil: I like to use this fruity Zoe olive oil which has a fantastic flavor and deep color- it’s really inexpensive online here, so I keep a few liters stocked up in my pantry. For the quality of oil you get, it’s an excellent value, I would highly recommend!
- Lemon Juice: Use fresh lemons if you have it, or this really great bottled lemon that you can keep in your pantry if you don’t have fresh lemons. This lemon is great for dressings, dips, and even cocktails.
- Red Wine Vinegar: I used red wine vinegar to give this dip a really nice bright flavor – for that, this red wine vinegar is my go-to!
- Garlic Powder: Also a major pantry staple ingredient that get used in our house daily! I love this garlic powder and add it to a lot of recipes that I would use fresh garlic in too.
- Pink Himalayan Sea Salt: I like to use a pink Himalayan Sea Salt in my kitchen, which has more natural minerals than plain processed table salt.  It’s fairly inexpensive, so I’d recommend this salt if you’re looking for an easy way to level up your spice pantry.
- Yellow Onions – I blend a bit of yellow onion into the dip to give it a light subtle onion flavor
- Green Onions – to fold into the dip, and also for extra garnish on top!
A No-Cook Dip Recipe That’s Perfect for Summer
This no-cook onion and sour cream dip is a quick and simple recipe. I love a good no-cook recipe for those days when I’m not feeling like standing around the stove, or for summer nights when I want a snack but it’s too hot to cook. I have a whole collection of recipes that require zero cooking at all, check them out here! This dip comes together in about 5 minutes in your blender, and doesn’t require the stove or microwave to make. Just use a few pantry staple ingredients and you have a healthy meal ready in no time. And very little to clean up afterwards… an added bonus!
How Do I Make Sour Cream and Onion Dip Vegan?
- Add all ingredients except the green onions to a blender or food processor, and mix on low speed until the tofu becomes creamy and thick. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more salt if needed.
- Transfer the dip to a bowl. Fold in half of the green onions into the dip, and sprinkle the other half on top.
- Dip chips, veggies, or crackers… and enjoy!
The Best Vegan Blender Dip
I’ve owned a lot of blenders, but my Vitamix is definitely the best one I’ve owned. This high-speed blender will blend even the toughest of ingredients into pulp. I prefer using my blender to my food processor for sauces or homemade vegan onion dip, as it’s much easier to clean the Vitamix. This is definitely one kitchen appliance we use on a daily basis!
