I recently bought a jar of chili crisp (which we went through in record speed) and wanted to make a tasty version of it at home.

This chili crisp is spicy from the chili flakes, crunchy from the sesame seeds, and sweet from the honey. It’s a great topper for soups or stews. We even spread it on a baguette with butter and it was absolutely delicious.

What’s In Chili Crisp?

See the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!

  • Red Chili Flakes: the star of this dish.
  • Vegetable, or light neutral oil (like sunflower oil or avocado oil)
  • Sesame Seeds – give this condiment it’s nice crunch, and a great flavor!
  • Toasted Sesame Oil: The sesame oil gives the perfect savory flavor. Toasted sesame oil is great paired with the sesame seeds in this condiment.
  • Soy Sauce or Tamari: tamari is a gluten-free version of soy sauce. Tamari has a bright salty flavor, and adds a really nice depth of umami to this crisp.
  • Onion Powder: adds a delicious and savory flavor to this chili crisp.
  • Garlic – I used fresh chopped garlic, which was a fantastic addition!
  • Honey:  I recommend trying a local farmers market to find the best raw honey in your area. Getting really good honey is a favorite of ours, and makes a difference in your recipes.
