Why This Recipe Works
- This delicious sweet egg salad is yummy, creamy, and makes a great lunch or brunch idea.
- A great way to use up extra eggs.
- Perfect for guests, make this egg salad for tea or a light luncheon.
- A fun twist on a classic recipe.
- Great to make a day or two ahead!
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Hard boiled eggs – I use my perfect method for hard-boiling eggs… works like a charm every time – no chipped shells or hard-to-peel eggs.
- Sweet Relish – to give this dish a little extra sweetness. I love classic sweet relish which has a nice crunch and a sweet and tangy flavor. It’s great in this salad (like a secret ingredient!) and also great to have on the table for burgers or hot dogs.
- Classic Mayonnaise: I like to use this classic mayo to keep this recipe plant-based, but you can use whatever mayo that you would normally use in recipes. If you don’t normally like mayo, try my homemade dairy-free mayo… it’s creamy but still plant based.
- Yellow mustard
- Salt & Pepper
- White Vinegar
- Onion Powder: adds a delicious and savory flavor to this dish as well, and the onion powder is great to add a little onion flavor to this dish… without actual onion. Avoid onion breath and use powder onion instead of fresh for this recipe.

Additions and Substitutions
- Add in fresh herbs for a bright and delicious flavor – fresh chopped dill packs a punch.
- If you don’t like traditional mayo, you can substitute a vegan or dairy free version instead.
- Try different vinegars for different flavor profiles – apple cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, or even balsamic would work great.
How Do I Make This Sweet Pickle Relish Egg Salad?
Step 1: If you are making the hardboiled eggs – bring a pot of water to a boil and add the eggs in. Cook for 11 minutes, and run the eggs under cook water. When cool enough to handle, peel eggs and mash with with a fork.
Step 2: To the eggs, add the vinegar, sweet relish, ranch dressing, onion powder, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
Step 3: Add the chopped salary, and fold it into the egg salad. Taste, and adjust seasoning as needed – adding more salt or pepper if desired.
Step 4: Enjoy egg salad on a sandwich, as a wrap, or on a bed of fresh greens. Enjoy!
Recipe FAQs
Absolutely! Sweet relish adds wonderful flavor and taste to the egg salad in each bite. If you don’t have sweet relish you can chop up some sweet pickles (like bread and butter) and add them into the egg salad instead.
If you have leftover egg salad, store it in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. It’s easy to make a batch and enjoy sandwiches or salads for days.
Once the hardboiled eggs are peeled, I like to mash the eggs with a fork in a shallow bowl. You could also chop the eggs with a knife or put them in a food processor.
