We love grilling our turkey breast when we want to enjoy a unique different flavor on the meat. We get a nice spice coating on the turkey before we grill it, and finish it by throwing some wood chips on in the last few minutes to get a nice smoky finish.

We got our Big Green Egg grill last year and it’s been fantastic for trying new things, like this turkey breast. I wanted to pick up a whole turkey at the store to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving, but I could only find turkey breasts in October in the states.

So for Thanksgiving we had these delicious turkey breasts that we grilled up!  We served them with our classic creamy baked carrots, low sodium stuffing, and Instant Pot mashed potatoes. Quite the feast over here, and the turkey was the best part.

What’s In This Big Green Egg Grilled Turkey?

Be sure to visit the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!

  • Turkey Breast – this recipe is for individual turkey breast cuts, not bone in turkey. By getting the turkey breasts individually, you can cook them quickly on the Egg!
  • Whole Mustard – we always use whole mustard for coating our meats on the grill. We add a layer directly to the skin, then cover in spices.
  • Himalayan Sea Salt – for the brine
  • Maple Syrup – for just a hint of sweetness with the mustard and spice.
  • Montreal Steak Spice – this is our preferred spice for pretty much everything, including turkey! It pairs nicely with the mustard too – making this a delicious and unique turkey.
  • Big Green Egg – you’ll need a grill (our Big Green Egg is the hands-down best!) and also a cast iron insert to cook the turkey evenly.
  • Meat thermometer – we have an inexpensive thermometer which is essential for making sure the turkey is cooked through.

How Do I Grill Turkey Breast on the Big Green Egg?

  1. Brine your turkey overnight (optional) – Add the turkey breasts to a bag, and add in salt, water, and any other spices you want to add flavor. Sometimes we add garlic powder and onion powder to get the flavor into the meat. Seal the bag, and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Prep the grill – add your cast iron insert over the grates of the egg. Get the temperature of the egg up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Prep the turkey – remove the breasts from the brine. Add a layer of whole grain mustard, then a drizzle of maple syrup, then the Montreal Steak Spice.
  4. Once the grill reaches the desired temperature, carefully open the egg by burping it. Lift the lid an inch or two, allowing the air to get into the grill for 10-15 seconds, then close the lid. Lift again slowly to open.
  5. Place the breasts on the cast iron insert, and close the lid. Cook for 20-25 minutes, until the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit in the center of the breast. Having an inexpensive meat thermometer is essential for getting the temperature right.
  6. Once turkey reaches 165 degrees, remove from the grill. Allow the turkey to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!
