Garlic bread is a staple on our homestead, and this amazing sourdough garlic bread is a hearty addition to your next spaghetti dinner. I usually have a loaf of sourdough bread on the counter or the fridge, thanks to my easy guide to making sourdough starter. I’ve had my starter going for a year and a half already, and it keeps producing light and fluffy sourdough that is crusty on the outside and tender in the middle. A thick slice of sourdough bread is the perfect vehicle for garlic, and this recipe is one you’ll want to enjoy for dinner or a quick snack. Sourdough garlic bread in the oven is the perfect way to use those last few slices of sourdough to give your dinner an extra burst of flavor.

What’s In This Sourdough Garlic Bread?
- Sourdough Bread: You can use store bought sourdough (Calise Bakery is my personal favorite) or you can buy sourdough starter here if you want to get adventurous and make your own. I also have a great guide on how to make your own in one week!
- Olive Oil: I like to use this fruity Zoe olive oil which has a fantastic flavor and deep color- it’s really inexpensive online here, so I keep a few liters stocked up in my pantry. For the quality of oil you get, it’s an excellent value, I would highly recommend!
- Raw Garlic
- Garlic Salt: for a little extra flavor than traditional salt. I like to use this garlic salt in my savory Italian dishes for that extra kick.
- Garlic Powder: Also a major pantry staple ingredient that gets used in our house daily! I love this garlic powder and add it to a lot of recipes that I would use fresh garlic in too.
- Red Chili Pepper Flakes: for a little heat! I like to add a few shakes to this recipe to give this dish a nice complex depth of flavor.
- Fresh Parsley

How Do I Make Sourdough Garlic Bread?
- Place sliced bread on an baking sheet or oven-safe plate. Set aside.
- In a ramekin or small dish, combine the olive oil, chopped garlic, garlic powder, garlic salt, and chili flakes. Stir well, and brush one side of the bread with the olive oil and garlic mixture, until all slices of bread are coated in the olive oil mixture.
- Place the bread in the oven and broil for 3 to 5 minutes until your bread becomes toasted to a light brown color. Always watch your food in the broiler as it can burn bread easily if you aren’t paying attention. I find that 4 minutes is perfect for my broiler, but all ovens are different so keep a close eye so your garlic bread doesn’t burn.
- Once toasted, remove garlic bread from the oven. Top with fresh chopped parsley and more chili flakes, if desired. Enjoy!
