These Baked Caramel Apple Slices are a healthy addition to your breakfast or dessert. Great with oatmeal, on top of ice cream, or just eaten plain!
This amazing sheet pan apple recipe is a fantastic way to use up extra apples you have around from a fall harvest (or just a sale at the store). Apple slices are coated in cinnamon and honey, and caramelized in the oven to perfection.
I never knew how wonderful apple picking was until I moved to New England! There are tons of local orchards here with many varieties of fresh apples to pick and choose from. A lot of the orchards in the area also have fresh ciders and wines too… so doing an apple picking/wine tasting day is so much fun.
I normally make Rustic Slow Cooker Applesauce with my orchard bounty… but decided to try something a little new this time. These Baked Caramel Apples are great to use in other recipes too. And with using maple syrup (or honey) you can avoid refined sugars.

Caramelized Apples in the Oven!
One of the best things about these Caramel Apples is that they are super healthy. Instead of using a store-bought prepared caramel, this recipe makes its own ‘caramel sauce’ while it cooks in the oven! Tossing the apples half way through cooking coats the apples in the rich caramelized sauce, yum!

- Fresh baking apples, use a hearty variety – I like Granny Smith!
- Cinnamon: which gives these waffles a subtle spice-y flavor! I love to add in a pinch for extra warmth and depth of flavor.
- Raw Honey: We use our own honey, straight out of the beehives for us! As beekeepers, we have plenty of raw honey so I try to use it in all my recipes instead of sugar. I’d recommend trying a local farmers market to find the best raw honey in your area. Or else, this raw organic honey online here is the next best thing.
- Ginger: I love adding fresh ginger to my dishes, or this great ground ginger to my baked goods– the ginger gives it a nice kick and spicy flavor.
- Pink Himalayan Sea Salt: I like to use a pink Himalayan Sea Salt in my kitchen, which has more natural minerals than plain processed table salt. It’s fairly inexpensive, so I’d recommend this salt if you’re looking for an easy way to level up your spice pantry.
- Coconut Oil: I always keep a few jars of this organic coconut oil on hand, it’s great for cooking and baking. If you make your own beauty products, it also makes a fantastic skin moisturizer too!
What’s a Vegan Alternative to Honey?
Yes, you can substitute out the honey in this recipe for agave nectar or maple syrup. I prefer agave nectar, it’s my go-to kitchen sweetener because it’s absolutely delicious, and buying organic agave is crazy inexpensive online (compared to other organic sweeteners). It also bakes well, so I like to add it to my baked goods.
These apples tasted amazing, and one of the best things was the smell of them in the oven while baking! There is nothing better than warm apples and cinnamon wafting throughout the house.
