What’s In This Garlic Honey Tofu Recipe?
I get all the fresh produce for my recipes from my garden and from Misfits Market – they sell all organic produce at a super discounted price, and it’s purchased direct from the farmers. We get Misfit Market boxes every other week and love picking out our favorite seasonal produce for delivery. You can get $10 off your first $30 box by clicking here!
If you think organic produce is too expensive… think again, and give Misfits Market a look!
- Tofu – I have been LOVING these shelf-stable tofu packs from Amazon. I literally have 3 cases of them in my pantry as we speak. They are an inexpensive and healthy way to get some plant protein in. The texture of this extra firm tofu is perfect for this turmeric tofu salad, no pressing required!
- Raw Honey: or normal honey, whatever you have on hand. We only use raw honey, because that’s how we keep the honey from our beehives.
- Worcestershire Sauce: for that unbelievably rich umami flavor, but make sure you use a vegan variety if you don’t eat meat (some can contain anchovies). Annie’s makes a great vegan Worcestershire sauce you can buy here!
- Garlic: I use fresh garlic when I have it, and this great jarred organic garlic when I don’t have fresh. It’s actually super convenient to have pre-chopped garlic on hand for quick and easy meal prep.
- Garlic Powder: A great way to add a lot of flavor with just a small amount of spice! This garlic powder is a fantastic addition to this tofu and really bakes the flavor in.
- Onion Powder: a light sweet spice which adds a really nice depth of flavor to this dish!
- Pink Himalayan Sea Salt: I like to use a pink Himalayan Sea Salt in my kitchen, which has more natural minerals than plain processed table salt. It’s fairly inexpensive, so I’d recommend this salt if you’re looking for an easy way to level up your spice pantry.
- Tellicherry Black Pepper: Like the salt, it’s amazing the flavor difference you can get with really good tellicherry black pepper. This pepper is the same price is buying pre-ground, and has a million times more flavor! I use these really great tellicherry peppercorns, which I would definitely recommend.
- Corn Starch: just enough to coat the tofu and help it crisp in the oven. This is the secret ingredient to irresistibly crunchy baked tofu! I like Anthony’s brand organic corn starch best. I use it weekly to make crispy potatoes and tofu!
Is There a Vegan Alternative to Honey?
Yes, you can substitute out the honey in this recipe for agave nectar or maple syrup. I prefer agave nectar, it’s my go-to kitchen sweetener because it’s absolutely delicious, and buying organic agave is crazy inexpensive online (compared to other organic sweeteners). It also bakes well, so I like to add it to my baked goods.
How Do I Find Good Honey?
This is one of my favorite raw honey recipes! You can browse all of my honey recipes here on my site. As a beekeeper, I love trying out new favorite honey recipes. Nothing is sweeter than using your own honey 🙂 If you’re looking to buy honey I’d recommend searching for local beekeeper in your area. That way you can have delicious local honey and also support an apiary… get it from the source.
How Do I Make Honey Baked Tofu?
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit, line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the tofu, corn starch, garlic powder, onion powder and 1 teaspoon of the coconut oil. Toss well to coat the tofu.
- Take the remaining 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and coat the parchment lined sheet pan with a thin layer of the oil. Place the tofu on the sheet pan in a single layer, and roast for 40 minutes, flipping halfway.
- To make the honey garlic sauce, add the Worcestershire sauce, raw honey, sesame seeds, and garlic in a small bowl and stir well to combine.
- Once tofu has finished cooking, add it back to the large mixing bowl and pour honey garlic sauce over. Toss the tofu so it’s coated in the sauce. Serve over rice, lo mein, or roasted vegetables!
A Few Notes About Raw Honey
Raw honey is just honey that has not been pasteurized! We take our honey straight from the hive, and don’t process or subject it to high heat. Pasteurizing can kill bad (and beneficial) macrobiotics in the honey. You can use normal store-bought honey for this recipe… it doesn’t have to be raw. That is just the way we like to keep our honey. Babies under the age of 1 should not be given honey, and pregnant women should avoid unpasteurized foods. Eat responsibly!
The best place to find raw honey is straight from your local beekeeper! Check out a farmer’s market or farm stand near you – or reach out to your county or state beekeeping association to connect with beekeeper’s near by. Support local bees, local keepers, and enjoy the sweet benefits.
