This vegetarian Caesar dressing recipe without anchovies is a creamy tangy dressing perfect for tossing with crisp Romaine lettuce and croutons in a Caesar salad. This dressing takes just 5 minutes to whisk together, and is made with fridge and pantry staple ingredients for the tastiest dressing ever.

An easy, simple, and flavorful salad dressing that uses Greek yogurt to make it light. I love serving up a big Caesar salad with my homemade vegan sourdough croutons, which is perfect for a family dinner, a holiday potluck, or for a cookout with guests.

This easy anchovy free Caesar dressing is the best vegetarian salad recipe around! Toss it with romaine lettuce, spinach, or any variety of mixed greens and add in salt-free croutons or your favorite salad toppings. Caesars are one of my favorite salads of all time, and a bright flavorful dressing is the key.

While most traditional Caesar dressing recipes call for anchovy paste for that classic flavor, I swapped it out in my version. I personally don’t love the flavor of anchovy, plus most anchovy pastes contain about 50% of your daily sodium sodium per one tablespoon sized serving (yikes)! Instead, I use a vegan Worcestershire sauce, which has a great flavor and tastes like the real thing.

  • Greek Yogurt – make sure it’s plain and unsweetened!  You can use a fat free Greek yogurt like this one (it’s our favorite!) or a full fat yogurt too. Make sure you get Greek yogurt and not plain yogurt, the thickness really makes this dressing fantastic!
  • MayonnaiseIf you have 5 minutes, you can make this easy low salt mayonnaise recipe in your blender or food processor!
  • Garlic – fresh chopped garlic gives this dressing it’s amazing kick!
  • Worcestershire Sauce: for that unbelievably rich umami flavor, but make sure you use a vegan variety if you don’t eat meat (some can contain anchovies).
  • Lemon Juice – highly recommend using fresh lemon juice if possible!
  • Mustard: I like the flavor of this Dijon mustard which takes the dressing to the next level.
  • Black pepper – fresh cracked pepper is our favorite!
  • Optional Nutritional Yeast: not to be confused with baking yeast, nutritional yeast has a cheesy nutty umami flavor which is great in all kinds of dishes.

Vegetarian Caesar Salad Topping Ideas

  • I like to top my Caesar salads with a vegetarian parmesan cheese, which doesn’t contain animal rennet.
  • An extra squeeze of fresh lemon juice makes a big difference.
  • Adding pine nuts, raw cashews, hemp hearts are great options that give you a fantastic crunch.
  • Sourdough bread croutons or garlic and herbs croutons bring lots of flavor! Or add roasted chickpeas for a higher protein option.
  • If you have fresh cherry tomatoes in season, you can top them on your salad as well.

How To Make Vegetarian Caesar Dressing without Anchovies

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, add the Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, clove of garlic, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, mustard powder, and black pepper (plus nutritional yeast, if using).
  2. With a whisk, mix all ingredients together until smooth.
  3. Taste, and adjust seasonings, adding more lemon juice or pepper if desired. If the dressing is too thick, you can add 1 teaspoon of water at a time to thin it out as desired.
