These Smoked Eggs are a fantastic vegetarian recipe for the electric smoker. Flavorful & high in protein – a great appetizer ready fast while your entrees cook.  I make these every time our electric smoker is on, and they always turn out amazing!

Our friends gave us an electric smoker for a housewarming gift a while ago, and it has been great to smoke amazing things that aren’t meat. We’ve smoked some really fun ingredients like this hard boiled eggs recipe, tofu, and even Cheese-Itz (highly recommend!).

All taste awesome, and you can do so much with an electric smoker besides meat.  Our smoker has 4 shelves, so I like to throw in a tray of eggs, usually at the top if we have extra room. The smoked eggs only take an hour or two, so they are a great appetizer option if you have hungry guests.

What’s In This Smoked Eggs Recipe?

See the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!

  • Hard-boiled eggs: use my easy-peel method for perfect hardboiled eggs every single time!  Seriously, not a single shell with stick to the eggs!  You can use fresh eggs or ones that are closer to the expiration, and it won’t matter
  • Olive Oil: I like coating the eggs in a little bit of olive oil, which helps the spices stick to the eggs.
  • BBQ sauce – use your favorite variety!
  • Spices: This is our absolute favorite spice blend, we put it on everything!
  • Teriyaki Sauce – I coated a few eggs in teriyaki sauce, and they turned out amazing – a little savory and a little sweet. I like a lower sodium teriyaki which doesn’t add too much saltiness to the eggs.
The great thing about this recipe is that is can be so versatile. You can use any spice mixture or blend that you like.  But your favorite spice blend would also be awesome. Use Italian, BBQ spice, sriracha, or even a Thai basil.  Anything goes! If you’re wondering how to smoke eggs, this is your guide.

How to Smoke Eggs in an Electric Smoker

  1. Set the electric smoker to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Peel hardboiled eggs, and slice them in half lengthwise.
  3. Place the eggs yolk-side-up in a foil packet or a aluminum tray. If using a sauce, dip the egg halves completely in the sauce. If using a spice, drizzle a little olive oil on the eggs and add a pinch of spice so the spices/seasonings stick to the surface of the egg.  I like to use BBQ sauce and Montreal Steak spice for my eggs.
  4. Place the eggs in an upper rack, and smoke for 1-2 hours. Do not leave the eggs longer than 2 hours, or they will become tough and rubbery.
