I happen to love cottage cheese, and decided that a delicious and creamy toast was the perfect way to feature this simple ingredient in a new way. Everyone loves butter or cream cheese on toast, so why not add a spread of cottage cheese instead? It’s creamy, light, salty, and provides the perfect base for fruit.

I drizzled a bit of fresh honey on top for a touch of extra sweetness, which was divine. You can use your favorite brand of store-bought honey, but if you can find local honey from a beekeeper, definitely try it out!  Your local farmers market or health food store will likely carry honey from near by, so support your local beekeepers if you can.

  • Strawberries – the absolute best when they are in season, if they grow in your area.
  • Cottage Cheese – you can use non-fat, 2%, or 4% cottage cheese, whatever you prefer!
  • Raw Honey: We use our own honey, straight out of the beehives for us!  As beekeepers, we have plenty of raw honey so I try to use it in all my recipes instead of sugar.  I’d recommend trying a local farmers market to find the best raw honey in your area. Or else, this raw organic honey online here is the next best thing.
  • Jam or Preserves – I like this jam for a super delicious flavor, and the jars are so darn cute – I save them and reuse!
  • Bread for Toasting – use any kind you like, or a gluten free version if you have a gluten allergy.

Is There an Alternative to Honey?

Yes, you can substitute out the honey in this recipe for agave nectar or maple syrup. I prefer agave nectar, it’s my go-to kitchen sweetener because it’s absolutely delicious, and buying organic agave is crazy inexpensive online (compared to other organic sweeteners).  It also bakes well, so I like to add it to my baked goods.
