This cottage cheese toast with fruit is a creamy, delicious high protein vegetarian breakfast idea! With a drizzle of honey and jam, this is one breakfast you will want to rise & shine for.
This simple cottage cheese breakfast recipe is ready in 5 minutes, and is so versatile to make. I used strawberries, but you can top this delicious toast with your favorite fruit: berries, cherries, peaches, kiwi, pineapple, or anything in season!
I happen to love cottage cheese, and decided that a delicious and creamy toast was the perfect way to feature this simple ingredient in a new way. Everyone loves butter or cream cheese on toast, so why not add a spread of cottage cheese instead? It’s creamy, light, salty, and provides the perfect base for fruit.

- Strawberries – the absolute best when they are in season, if they grow in your area.
- Cottage Cheese – you can use non-fat, 2%, or 4% cottage cheese, whatever you prefer!
- Raw Honey: We use our own honey, straight out of the beehives for us! As beekeepers, we have plenty of raw honey so I try to use it in all my recipes instead of sugar. I’d recommend trying a local farmers market to find the best raw honey in your area. Or else, this raw organic honey online here is the next best thing.
- Jam or Preserves – I like this jam for a super delicious flavor, and the jars are so darn cute – I save them and reuse!
- Bread for Toasting – use any kind you like, or a gluten free version if you have a gluten allergy.
Healthy Recipes With Cottage Cheese and Bread To Enjoy Every Morning
This cottage cheese and fruit toast recipe is a fantastic way to start your day on the right foot! While cottage cheese can be consumed any time of day, this recipe makes it easy to get your protein in first thing in the morning. I add plenty of jam and a touch of fresh honey to sweeten this breakfast naturally. Only good-for-you whole ingredients go into this dish, making it a great way to rise & shine!
Is There an Alternative to Honey?
Yes, you can substitute out the honey in this recipe for agave nectar or maple syrup. I prefer agave nectar, it’s my go-to kitchen sweetener because it’s absolutely delicious, and buying organic agave is crazy inexpensive online (compared to other organic sweeteners). It also bakes well, so I like to add it to my baked goods.
