Fall is my favorite season of the year, especially living in Massachusetts where autumn truly shines.  All the trees turn, the smells of wood fire stoves are in the air, and there’s nothing better than relaxing by the fire on a crisp New England night. Especially with this delicious cocktail in hand.

Autumn in New England is like no other! The trees glow with vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds. Local apple orchards are in full swing with apple picking season.  Apple cider (and cider donuts) are everywhere in stores and road-side stands.  And The Harvest Moon, best apple cider cocktail recipe I’ve ever made, is like drinking a sweet and smooth glass of autumn.

This Apple Moonshine Cocktail Is:

  • Sweet
  • Fresh
  • Warming
  • Smooth
  • Crisp
  • Filled notes of apple and cinnamon
  • My absolute favorite fall cocktail recipe
  • The perfect drink for an autumn night

What’s In This Apple Pie Moonshine Cocktail?

Be sure to visit the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!

  • Fresh apple cider: bonus points if you can get it straight from an orchard!  In our area, lots of farms have roadside stands with fresh pressed cider, right from the apples in their groves. If not, use any kind of good apple cider that you would enjoy on a crisp fall day.
  • Apple Pie Moonshine: there are a few great brands out there, so any apple flavored moonshine is absolutely delish!  With hints of cinnamon and clove, the apple pie moonshine is smooth and sweet. Its such a great combination with the apple cider.
  • Club soda or flavored seltzer water: because I love some bubbles in a cocktail! I top most of my cocktails with seltzer for a refreshing splash – and the seltzer gives this cocktail a bright finish. It lightens up the moonshine and cider.  The first time I made this I used a Black Cherry flavored seltzer and it was dynamite!

How Do I Make This Perfect Fall Moonshine Cocktail?

  1. Fill a glass (or mason jar!) with ice.
  2. Pour in the moonshine, and apple cider, and stir well to combine.
  3. Top with the club soda/seltzer, stir once again, and enjoy!

Should I Drink Apple Moonshine Hot or Iced?

September weather is always a bit unpredictable in New England.  Today, for example, got up to 87 degrees Fahrenheit – shots and flip flop weather. Or some nights can get into the 40s, when you want a wood fire and a wool blanket.

Drink this cocktail with the weather – if it’s a warm day or evening, then served iced. If there’s a chill to the air, warm on the stove top before serving.
