What is Everything Bagel Seasoning?

Everything bagel seasoning is a blend of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion, and salt. The inspiration comes from the toppings on everything bagels – yum!

I first found this seasoning at Trader Joes but have seen a few other brands carry it since, you can find it at most grocery stores. It’s a fantastic addition to hummus, dips, spreads, or bagels.

What’s In This Everything Bagel Hummus Recipe?

Be sure to visit the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!

  • Everything Bagel Seasoning: I love this stuff, its amazing mixed in the hummus and on top. I like this Everything Bagel Seasoning best because it has double the sesame seeds… yum!
  • Olive Oil: for extra creaminess in the dip.
  • Chickpeas: you can use either canned or homemade… this Instant Pot Chickpea recipe is my preferred method for sure! If using canned, make sure to get a no salt added variety.
  • Garlic
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: for a little heat. If you don’t like spice you can leave these out. Or if you really like spice, then double the amount of this awesome crushed red pepper.
  • Lemon juice, from one lemon. Use fresh if possible!

Quick Chickpea Recipes Anytime

This recipe calls for chickpeas aka garbanzo beans. I’d recommend using a no-salt-added variety to keep the overall sodium content down, so you can control how much sodium is in the recipe since the everything bagel seasoning has salt. Canned chickpeas taste great, so if you are using canned chickpeas, just watch the sodium or added salt content.

I make dried beans in my Instant Pot every week, it’s a great way to save on cost. If you’re a bean fan, then I’d recommend an Instant Pot or electric pressure cooker as a way to take your recipes to the next level!

Everything bagel seasoning is a blend of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried garlic, dried onion, and sea salt. I find mine at Trader Joe’s, but there are a few brands out there you can find in the spice aisle. It’s a great mix that is similar to the toppings on an “everything bagel” – hence the name!

Can you use other beans besides chickpeas?

Sure, you can try following the recipe below with other beans like white beans, black beans, or even cooked lentils for a fun twist on hummus. The everything bagel seasoning will still shine!

How long does everything bagel hummus last?

Store leftover hummus in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days. Be sure to give it a stir if it separates slightly – and you can garnish with additional everything bagel seasoning before serving.
