This high protein nice cream recipe is a late-night favorite of mine! Of all the desserts in the world ice cream is my absolute favorite! I love it but a lot of the non-dairy ones I’ve tried are chalky and expensive. This treat is a great compromise – frozen fruit and plant based protein at a fraction of the cost! It definitely satisfies the craving for ice cream, and is ready in 5 minutes.

The Best Blender for Ice Cream
I recommend using a good-quality high speed blender for this recipe. I have a fantastic Vitamix blender, which I have been using for years, and it gets daily use in our home.
Choose a blender that has a lot of power, and can pulverize even the toughest of ingredients. My blender can chop ice, dates, frozen fruits, make soups, and even blend nuts into homemade nut butter. Using a good high-speed blender will make perfectly creamy smoothies and sauces every time!
What’s In High Protein Chocolate Nice Cream?
Be sure to visit the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!
- Frozen Bananas – gives this nice cream sweetness and a thick texture!
- Chocolate Protein Powder – I love chocolate protein powder which has a whopping 30 grams of protein per serving! It’s vegan and gluten free too, and tastes great in recipes like this or in creamy thick smoothies.
- Almond Milk– I used unsweetened almond milk for my nice cream, it’s delicious.
- Walnuts
- 1 cup ice
Make Chocolate Ice Cream Vegan for a Plant-Based Version
This vegan blender chocolate ice cream is a simple way to get extra plant power in your diet. I’m all about making recipes plant-based when I can. Vegan cooking does NOT have to be bland, boring, or flavorless… It’s quite the opposite when done right. By building meals around vegan pantry staples and swapping in a few plant-based ingredients you can make better meals for you and your family.
If you are vegan, please check to make sure your protein powder is dairy free and certified vegan. The chocolate protein powder I use is, but not all of them are. Double checking labels is always a great idea if you eat a specific diet.
How Do I Make Nice Cream with Protein Powder?
- Add the frozen bananas, protein powder, almond milk, and walnuts to the blender. Start blending on low speed and work your way up to high speed until smooth. Add the ice and blend for 1 minute longer.
- If the ice cream starts to seize in the blender, turn off the blender, scrape the sides and add 1/4 more almond milk.
- Pour mixture into bowls and eat immediately (or freeze 1 hour for harder ice cream).
