This 4-ingredient Blackberry Jam really couldn’t be easier to make. A fantastic way to use those delicious blackberries to enjoy in breakfasts, bars, and desserts.
We make a LOT of bread on out homestead! Typically its my easy 4 Ingredient No Knead Bread in the Dutch oven, a Saturday morning ritual for us. Its great as toast, to dip in bread, or for an open face sandwich. Last weekend I had a bunch of fresh blackberries, and decided to make a jam to have with our breakfast!
This jam is versatile so you can use fresh or frozen berries. When there is a sale I like to stock up and put a few pints and freeze whatever we don’t eat fresh. Frozen berries are great for smoothies and perfect in this jam.

What’s In This Blackberry Chia Seed Jam?
Be sure to visit the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!
- Blackberries – you can use fresh or frozen – whatever is in season. This is great if you have a patch of blackberries nearby or from your local farmer’s market.
- Chia Seeds – a nutritious thickener for fresh jams and jellies – chia seeds are fantastic to add into smoothies or enjoy as a chia seed pudding. These little seeds are super versatile (ever heard of chia pets?) and are wonderful to cook and bake with!
- Maple syrup: for natural sweetness without the refined sugar, I’d definitely recommend using a natural maple syrup over sugar in this recipe.
- Vanilla Extract: it’s super important to use real pure vanilla extract, and not artificial baking vanilla flavor. This real all natural vanilla is a fantastic ingredient to give this recipe an extra boost.

How Do I Make Blackberry Jam with Chia Seeds?
- In a saucepan, heat the blueberries over low heat for 7 to 8 minutes, until they begin to break down. Add the chia seeds and maple syrup and continue to stir until the berries dissolve, about another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat, and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow jam to sit for a few minutes to thicken and enjoy!
- Jam will last up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
Storing Jam without Pectin
This jam keeps really well in the fridge! This is a quick jam recipe, not a canning jam for long-term storage. When finished making, put any leftover jam in airtight containers. It’ll keep for 2 weeks in the fridge.
What Do I Serve With Blackberry Chia Jam?
- Its great on 4 Ingredient no Knead Dutch Oven Bread
- Or spread it on banana bread!
- It’s fantastic to top on oatmeal waffles.
- Use on sandwiches for an adult PB&J!
- On dairy free baking powder biscuits.
