This recipe is vegan, high in protein, and super customizable with your favorite pizza toppings.
Tofu is one of my favorite ingredients to cook with – it’s tasty, super versatile, and can be fried, blended, sauteed, and now waffled! I had to hop on the tofu waffle bandwagon, and make a super fun and flavorful pizza with my tofu waffles.
The tofu crisps to perfection in the waffle maker, making it an ideal crust that will hold up to whatever you top with! And the pockets in the waffle are like little reservoirs for sauce and toppings – these tofu waffles are the perfect vehicles for pizza.

A Vegan High Protein Pizza Recipe Comin’ Up
This vegan pizza waffle recipe is a great plant-based choice for pizza night. The crust is made with extra firm tofu, that’s been pressed in a waffle maker and then baked. The tofu is low in carbs and gives the pizza a great crunchiness that you’d normally expect from pizza crust. The Nasoya Extra Firm Tofu has 9 grams of plant based protein and only 2 net carbs per serving, making it a great choice for those on a ketogenic diet or anyone trying to up their protein intake.
What’s In These Tofu Pizza Waffles?
Be sure to visit the recipe card below for full ingredient amounts and recipe instructions!
- Extra Firm Tofu – This tofu holds up in the waffle maker better than any others I’ve tried, and is also perfect for baking, air frying, or sauteing. The water will evaporate when being cooked in the waffle maker, so no need to press the tofu before using.
- Cooking spray
- Pizza Sauce – I used my no cook pizza sauce recipe for this, and it was heavenly, tomatoey perfection.
- Plant-Based Cheese – you can use a plant-based or non-dairy shredded cheese for these pizzas. There are so many amazing brands of vegan cheeses out there that actually melt nowadays, so use your favorite one for this pizza.
- Pizza Toppings – I used bell peppers, mushrooms, red onions on mine! Feel free to use your favorites: pineapple, olives, soy sausage, or vegan chorizo would all be excellent additions.
- Olive Oil – I drizzled a little extra virgin olive oil on the pizza after I took it out of the oven, and it was the exact thing it needed.
- Red Chili Flakes – if you like a little heat and spice!
- Fresh Basil – for an extra pop of flavor in each bite.
How Do I Make Tofu Waffles Pizza?
- Slice block of tofu in half lengthwise. Slice each half into 4 long strips, about 1/2 inch thick. These tofu slices will go into the waffle maker. (My wafflemaker was able to fit 4 of the slices at a time, but yours may vary depending on the model.)
- Put Extra Firm Tofu on waffle maker, cook for 5 to 7 minutes until waffles start to brown.
- Place waffle on a baking sheet. Spray each side of the waffle with cooking spray, and place the baking sheet under the oven broiler. Broil the waffle for 5 minutes on each side until waffle becomes crispy.
- Remove waffle from oven. Top with pizza sauce, then cheese, then toppings of choice. Place pizza waffle back under the broiler and broil for 6 to 8 minutes or until the plant based cheese starts to brown.
- Remove from oven, and drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with red chili flakes, and top with fresh julienned basil. Mangia!
