Why I Love My Treadmill Desk – Work From Home Wellness

Share

I had been considering a treadmill desk for a long while, especially since I began to work from home full-time. I love being able to walk anytime (and in any weather) and exercise while I get email answering in.

As a full-time WFH employee, and nights-and-weekends blogger, I spend a lot of time in front of my monitors and laptop screens. Whether I’m on a work call, doing some writing, or performing a detail-oriented task, I can enjoy stretching my legs and getting some extra steps in!

After doing lots of research on the best treadmill desks, I went with a WalkingPad model, which fits perfectly under my desk. It folds in half, making it easy to put away when I have company over too. WalkingPad sent me a sample of their desk for review, and I have to say, I give it a 10/10!

How I Use My WalkingPad

A typical work day for me can vary – whether it’s writing drafts, researching recipes, or responding to comments on my blog, a lot goes on at my desk. I love that I can adjust my pace on the WalkingPad to suit each task I need to do. I can slow the treadmill down for more focus-based work, or pick up the pace if I am brainstorming ideas.

If I have to join a webinar or sales call, I love having the option to listen in as a walk. I can control the WalkingPad with a hand-held remote at my desk, or use the app which is connected to my treadmill.

I’ve especially found that walking while I am working on my social media accounts is a perfect combo! I can scroll and post while I get some extra steps in.

Benefits of Walking

There are many proven benefits of walking! Since it’s a low-intensity exercise, walking can help ease joint pain, lower blood sugar, and increase energy levels.

For me personally, I found it’s helped me move more and sit much less! It’s helped with my lower back pain and poor posture from sitting in my chair. I’ve also found that a little walking can be an invigorating way to break up the day! It helps boost my mood, especially when I have finished a difficult task.

Another added benefit has been to my creativity, especially when thinking of new recipes to come up with! I do great thinking while I exercise, and often come up with great new ideas on the treadmill.

Who Will Love This Desk

If there are any fellow bloggers out there who spend hours each day at their desks, this is a great tool to help you move! Or anyone who now works from home will definitely see a big improvement in reducing their sitting time.

Walking at your desk is a great way to get a little exercise in without having a separate workout routine (or a separate room/gym).

I found the WalkingPad is especially great to customizing the speed of the treadmill. That way, I can bump my speed up or down to match different tasks.

Tips for Getting Started

I love the WalkingPad because it’s sturdy, quiet, and works perfectly in my space – they have a few different models which can fit with your individual needs.

Begin by thinking of smaller tasks (like writing or reading emails, time spent on social media, etc) that you can adapt to while walking. Start with your easier tasks first to see how your workflow is as you walk.

Schedule blocks in your calendar for walking that don’t require 100% concentration. I found that brainstorming or thinking of new ideas is great for this, and I can type them as I go.

Where To Purchase

Overall, I am so happy with my treadmill desk, and really love using the WalkingPad! I encourage anyone who is interested to make an investment in their health (without making an investment in time). It’s a great multitasking tool, and an excellent way to get extra steps in while you work!

I have the WalkingPad C2 foldable model, but they have many great options for walking as you work!
