This arugula smoothie recipe is a bright fresh way to start the day- with greens and fruit blended for a refreshing breakfast. This fantastic smoothie is a great way to rise and shine!
Blend on low, and increase speed until all fruit/dates/ice chunks are blended and the smoothie is a creamy consistency.
Pour into your favorite glass, sit back, and enjoy!
Notes
Substitutions and Additions
If you don't have dates, you can use another natural sweetener like honey, agave nectar, or maple syrup. Start with one teaspoon, and add more to taste.
I like water as the base for my smoothies, but you can add milk or yogurt for a creamier texture.
Add a scoop of unflavored protein powder (vanilla will also work) if desired.
Frozen fruit works great in smoothies - I use frozen pineapple for all my smoothies as it blends well and is inexpensive.
Expert Tips
This recipe is vegan and gluten free - if you are adding a protein powder, make sure it keeps with any dietary modifications you require. I like a vegan and gluten free vanilla protein for this smoothie, if I'm adding a powder!
A really good high speed blender (like a Vitamix) will blend the smoothie super-well so there will be no fruit or ice chunks.
I like serving (and storing) my smoothies in mason jars. The airtight lids and bands make them great to take on-the-go without spills!
