Grilled Garlic Scapes

Kelly Jensen
This grilled garlic scapes recipe is a bright fresh way to enjoy summer sprouted garlic scapes! They're soft, tender, and so flavorful. They're lightly charred from the grill, and couldn't be easier to make! I love the fresh green scapes that sprout out of our homegrown garlic - and grilling them up is one of the best ways to enjoy them. You can also pickle garlic scapes too, which are equally as delicious. Toss these fantastic scapes on the grill for some major summer flavor.

Equipment

  • Grill

Ingredients

  • 3 cups garlic scapes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1/2 lemon juiced

Instructions

  • Clean the garlic scapes - wash them under cold water and snap off any dense ends of the stem. *Note you can choose to cut them in half, we left ours whole
  • On a plate, toss the scapes with olive oil, salt, lemon pepper, and chili flakes. Mix well to combine, making sure all the scapes are coated with the oil and spice mixture.
  • Put the scapes on the grill (we used a cast iron grill pan) and cook for 7 to 8 minutes, flipping halfway. The scapes should be soft and tender, and lightly charred.
  • Remove scapes from the grill, and squeeze fresh lemon juice over the scapes. Enjoy!
