TVP Ground Sausage

This plant-based TVP sausage is amazingly easy and flavorful to make at home!  Mix with spices, bake, and enjoy in any dish that calls for sausage.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Textured Vegetable Protein TVP
  • 1.5 cups hot water
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Italian Seasoning Blend thyme, parsley, oregano, etc.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs optional
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a large bowl, add the TVP and hot water.  Cover for 10 minutes until the TVP has absorbed all the water.
  • Add the onion powder, paprika, and Italian seasoning.  Stir well to combine.  Add the breadcrumbs and/or flax egg if using.
  • Place mixture on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, in an even layer.  Bake for about 15 minutes until mixture becomes dark brown on top and begins to crisp.
