Equipment

  • Baking Sheet Pan
  • Parchment Paper

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2.5 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil plus more for brushing
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • Fresh Parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Add the warm water, yeast, and sugar to a large bowl. Allow to sit for 5 minutes until yeast blooms, and begins to foam. Add the flour, salt, and garlic powder to the bowl. Mix well with a wooden spoon to combine the dough.
  • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes, adding more flour if the dough is sticking to your hands. Place the kneaded dough back into the bowl. Pour 2 tablespoons of the olive oil over the dough, and flip the dough to make sure it's well coated in the olive oil. Cover and let rest for 1 hour.
  • When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Divide the dough in half, and each of the halves into 8 pieces. This recipe makes 16 knots. Take the dough for one knot, and roll it into a 9 or 10 inch strip with your palms. Take the two ends of the dough: make a loop with one end, and feed the other end through the loop to make a knot. Like you're completing the first step of tying your shoes. Place the knot on the baking sheet, and repeat until all the knots are tied.
  • Place the baking sheet in the oven, and bake for 18-24 minutes until the garlic knots are golden brown on top.  Remove from oven.
  • Brush each garlic knot with olive oil, and top with raw garlic and parsley or chili flakes if desired. Mangia!
