Make Ahead Dairy Free Cheese Sauce
The cheese sauce for these fries is a fantastic and simple recipe to make ahead. Great for a busy weeknight, for entertaining, or just for those nights when you don’t feel like cooking. I like to prep an extra sheet pan of sauce ingredients ahead of time, blend it, and freeze some for later. Having ready cooked meals in the fridge or freezer is a great way to enjoy home cooked meals when you don’t have time in the kitchen.
Freezing ingredients is also a great way to use up food that may be expiring soon. Check out all my make ahead meals for some inspiration to help you prep, keep, heat, and heat!
What’s In This Vegan Cheese Fries Recipe?
- Potatoes
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Montreal Steak Spice: Our favorite spice blend, probably the one we use most in our home! Montreal Steak Spice is a blend of garlic, pepper, salt, oregano, crushed pepper flakes, and a little dill for an amazing flavor. With a half-Canadian household, you better believe we put this spice on everything!
- Corn Starch: the secret to perfectly crispy oven baked fries, it really makes a difference. I like Anthony’s brand organic corn starch best. I use it weekly to make crispy potatoes and tofu!
- Carrots
- Onions
- Nutritional Yeast: not to be confused with bread baking yeast, nutritional yeast has a cheesy nutty umami flavor which is great in all kinds of dishes.
- Chili Powder: for a really nice flavor in this dip – the chili powder isn’t spicy but will give you a rich and bright flavor.
- Garlic Powder: Also a major pantry staple ingredient that gets used in our house daily! I love this garlic powder and add it to a lot of recipes that I would use fresh garlic in too.
- Mustard Powder: I always am adding this mustard powder to any cheese-y type dish – it adds a nice sharpness and bright yellow color.
Sheet Pan Cheese Fries Recipe For the Win!
These sheet pan cheese fries are the perfect sheet pan dinner! I love a good sheet pan meal, especially during these summer months when I want to cook everything at once. Cooking on a sheetpan is one of my favorite ways to get a meal on the table fast! All the food gets cooked on a single pan, which makes cleaning up a breeze. And the oven does all the work for you, so you can focus on other kitchen prep while the food cooks. Sheet pan meals are awesome for breakfast, lunch, or dinner – check out more sheet pan meals that are ready in no time!
How Do I Make This Gluten Free Dairy Free Cheese Fries Recipe?
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cover 2 sheet pans with parchment paper.
- Add all the fries ingredients to one Sheet Pan, toss well to combine and set aside.
- On the other sheet pan add the carrots, potato, onion, olive oil, and salt. Toss well to combine.’
- Place both sheet pans in the oven, and roast for 40 minutes, flipping the vegetables halfway. When vegetables are finished roasting, turn off the oven and leave the sheet pan with the fries in the oven. This will keep the fries warm as you make the cheese sauce.
- Add the carrots/potato/onion mixture to a blender with the reminder of the sauce ingredients. Blend on high for 2 minutes until sauce is thick and creamy. If sauce is too thick, add 1/4 cup of plant milk until desired consistency.
