Making your own skin and beauty products is a great and simple way to reduce the amount of chemicals and plastics in your life! After almost running out of our super expensive amazing face scrub the other week, I wondered why I even bought the stuff. It’s loaded with chemicals and a lot of scrubs contain microplastics which wreak havoc on the environment. I decided that it would be pretty darn easy to make our own. And what do we throw away tons of… coffee grounds! Since we have lots of super fine coffee grounds from the expresso machine, that was a great way not only to save waste but put those grounds to good use. An eco-friendly AND natural skin product? This All Natural Body Scrub Is:
- 100% natural
- Incredibly easy to make

- Vegan, Gluten Free, and Non-Toxic!
Add Pantry Staples to your Beauty Routine!
This simple all natural body scrub recipe uses almost all ingredients you would have in your dry pantry or cupboards – most of which you probably have on hand. Keeping a well-stocked pantry makes it easy to come up with delicious and healthy meals using a few staples you can rotate. I made a list of my Top 125 Plant-Based Pantry Staples that always keep stocked. And you can check out all my favorite pantry staple ingredients in my Amazon shop here. What’s In This All Natural Body Scrub Recipe?
- Coffee Grounds – I like to use an organic and fair trade coffee for this recipe. Organic so it reduces the amount of chemicals and pesticides in my coffee (and resulting body scrub). The coffee acts as a natural exfoliant, which rubs off any dead skin. And the best part? You get to enjoy a super fresh cup of organic fair trade coffee before your morning shower. It’s a great combination!
- Coconut Oil: I love keeping a few jars of this organic coconut oil on hand, it’s great for cooking and also a really nice skin moisturizer outside the kitchen. The coconut oil gets melted and blended in with the coffee grounds. Once the coffee rubs away the dead skin, the coconut oil leaves a nice moisturizing finish.
- Wide Mouth Glass Jars – these wider-mouth 4 ounce jars are perfect for your hands/fingers to reach in and get the perfect amount of scrub… Other cosmetic jars usually have a smaller lid, so I’d recommend a wider mouth jar.
Save Coffee Grounds for this No Waste Beauty Recipe!
I’m all about saving, reusing, or repurposing as much as I can in my kitchen. This all natural body scrub is the perfect recipe to repurpose something you may be tempted to throw out. Instead of tossing coffee grounds in the compost or garbage, you can repurpose them into a simple and easy body scrub. I’m all about saving anything I can from my kitchen, and this scrub is a great way to avoid letting grounds go to waste!
How Do I Make this Vegan & Gluten Free Body Scrub?
- Place used and dry coffee grounds in a ramekin or small bowl.
- Melt the coconut oil to its liquid form, and add the liquid coconut oil to the ramekin.
- Stir and mix the coconut oil and coffee grounds together until well-combined. Use liberally on your skin in the shower: rub it in, scrub your skin, and rinse off.
- Store extra rub in the refrigerator, and melt in the microwave or float the jar in a bath of warm water to melt the oil before using.
This vegan 2-ingredient recipe was so simple and quick to make. I was super impressed with the exfoliating the coffee did, and also how my skin felt so hydrated from the coconut oil after. Plus your skin will smell amazing after, so that was definitely an added bonus. I make this recipe a few times a year when I need a little exfoliating, and I swear by this recipe. It’s inexpensive to make (especially compared to store bought scrubs!) and does the job!
