Aunt Ruth’s Salad Dressing is a bright, fresh, and garlicky vinaigrette that’s perfect for to dress any salad for a bbq, potluck, or holiday.

This is THE best salad dressing from my great aunt Ruth and we make it time and time again – a true family classic. You could also use it as a marinade. It’s vegan, gluten free, and dairy free.

Probably my favorite of our Family Recipes! My grandparents and great Aunt Ruth used to own a restaurant/‘Supper Club’ outside of Chicago during the 60s and 70s- and this recipe always gets passed around in our family cookbooks.  This dressing gets made for every holiday, special occasion, or for when we want to class up a salad.  It is perfectly tangy, sweet, and works with any kind of lettuce, really!  To me, its one of the only things that makes iceberg lettuce worth eating.

It’s a bright and vibrant golden salad dressing that takes about 5 minutes to make. Skip the bottled vinaigrette, and make your own with a few simple kitchen ingredients. I made this dressing about once a month and it gives everything an amazing flavor.  It works on leaf lettuce salads, root vegetable salads, pasta salads… you name it!

Aunt Ruth’s Salad Dressing Is:

  • Bright
  • Sweet
  • Flavorful
  • Loaded with good-for-you ingredients
  • Fresh
  • Ready in 5 Minutes
  • Made with Pantry Staple Ingredients
  • Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, and SO Good!

What’s In Family Salad Dressing?

  • Apple Cider Vinegar, which gives this dressing a little extra tang which is really fantastic! I love using this organic apple cider vinegar with the mother which has a great flavor.  I think it gives a nice extra sweetness and depth.
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Sea salt and black pepper
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Raw Garlic
  • Safflower Oil – a very light oil which is high oliec, this safflower oil gives this dressing a great texture when blended with the olive oil.
  • Pint Sized Mason Jars – I like these wide mouth pints to make all my salad dressings in – I love adding all ingredients to the jar, sealing the air tight lid, and shaking for about 30 seconds. It’s easier (and way less messy) than using a bowl.

Make Ahead Salad Dressing with Apple Cider Vinegar

This apple cider vinegar salad dressing is a fantastic and simple recipe to make ahead. Great for a busy weeknight, for entertaining, or just for those nights when you don’t feel like cooking.  I like to prep a jar of this dressing ahead of time, and keep it in the fridge for a party or just for my salads for the week  Having ready cooked meals in the fridge or freezer is a great way to enjoy home cooked meals when you don’t have time in the kitchen.
