These Baked Caramel Apple Slices are a simple addition to your breakfast or dessert. Great with oatmeal, on top of ice cream, or just eaten plain!

This amazing sheet pan apple recipe is a fantastic way to use up extra apples you have around from a fall harvest (or just a sale at the store). Apple slices are coated in cinnamon and honey, and caramelized in the oven to perfection.

I never knew how wonderful apple picking was until I moved to New England!  There are tons of local orchards here with many varieties of fresh apples to pick and choose from.  A lot of the orchards in the area also have fresh ciders and wines too… so doing an apple picking/wine tasting day is so much fun.

I normally make Rustic Slow Cooker Applesauce with my orchard bounty… but decided to try something a little new this time. These Baked Caramel Apples are great to use in other recipes too.  And with using maple syrup (or honey) you can avoid refined sugars.

Caramelized Apples in the Oven!

One of the best things about these Caramel Apples is that they are made with whole ingredients. Instead of using a store-bought prepared caramel, this recipe makes its own ‘caramel sauce’ while it cooks in the oven!  Tossing the apples half way through cooking coats the apples in the rich caramelized sauce, yum!

What’s a Vegan Alternative to Honey?

Yes, you can substitute out the honey in this recipe for agave nectar or maple syrup. I prefer agave nectar, it’s my go-to kitchen sweetener because it’s absolutely delicious, and buying organic agave is inexpensive (compared to other organic sweeteners).  It also bakes well, so I like to add it to my baked goods.

These apples tasted amazing, and one of the best things was the smell of them in the oven while baking!  There is nothing better than warm apples and cinnamon wafting throughout the house.
